Everything's in a name!

Laya, Liya, Leela, Lovely, Laasya, Lara, Leka, Lucky
Laksha, Likitha…. No it’s not like those are the names I kept dreaming of naming my daughter from childhood (If I have one), Like Monica does in the FRIENDS series.

How difficult it was for my cousin to name her daughter, after series of going through books and making use of the Google search engine from months together she still couldn’t come up with a suitable name for her daughter. It was just the night after the naming ceremony (Yes, it was AFTER), she called me downstairs for the midnight snack and she put forth her concern.

She looked at her daughter, a little thing of ten or twelve months , bright lively, graceful with brilliant black eyes with  black – sooty hair…

“I want to change her name”, she said with a bloated face. I was surprised by her impetuous nature at such an absurd hour.
Me: “But the naming ceremony is just over”.
She: Yeah, I didn’t like that name.
I didn’t want to ponder about it more, after  something which had happened that morning , it was conspicuous for her to react this way.
        Morning drama:(Naming Ceremony)
        Name disclosed: Louchana
Wah wah wah woo woo claps claps.
After the pooja during lunch when all my mom’s seven sisters were sitting around the table, my cousin gets her new named baby and makes her sit at the centre of the table, and one of my aunt calls her louchana, the baby’s playing without responding to her new name, then my aunt increases her voice and calls Lochee, Lochee and bursts out laughing, in came in the laughter of the remaining six of them.

That’s enough explanation as to what had made my aunt change her decision. It did sound whacky to me initially wondering what’s in a name!??  But If I was in her shoes, I would probably end up as lamentable as her. I definitely wouldn’t consider people making fun of my daughter!! (Shoot Shoot)

This event actually reminded me of the book NAMESAKE written by Jhumpa Lahiri, where GOGOL (character’s name) finds his strange name a constant irritant, and eventually he tries to change it .

When Shakespeare wrote that a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet, he hadn’t predicted the plight of our modern times.

I wonder what was it to be called Bill Gates. Or Jack Hammer. Why would they wanna name their children so??
So I did appreciate my cousin for her foresightedness. She later settled in for Liharika.

  1. Ha ha.. A good Writeup...
One of my relatives' name is Nagavalli. She had no problem with her name until the film 'Apthamitra' was released. Now, everyone who is meeting her the first time give a special look, on hearing her name :)
Whatever name you choose at the time of birth, it may turn any way based on future events :)

Freedom, as we see it!

The Celebrations of independence is  still alive in my street!! Thanks to my neighborhood kids! We complain about Today's kids, but today I saw it live! Happy Independence day!:)    65th year, and the still going strong! 9.00 am, I was still on my bed, until I heard  the chorus of Vande Mataram from outside my window . The boy dressed in white had made everyone stand in a row and was holding a book in his hand and was making the other kids repeat after him. It was a pleasure to watch these kids singing , and all their parents stood outside their balcony with proud smiling faces watching them . After the chorus session a bunch of kids barged into everyone's house and wished all of us a Happy Independence day.   For rest of  us it was just another holiday where we could sit back and relax, but looking at the enthusiasm put forth by these kids really kept me thinking, What are we celebrating for? Have we enough freedom?...

Magnet:Iron:: Attention: We= Fame Hoggers

It's Correlated! When you are in love,it's all the attention that you get which makes you fall in love again and all over again. Love without attention? Naah. That never exists. Some people crave for it some people live with it and for some it just so comes naturally. Well craving for attention is nothing wrong. But trying really hard for it? You'll get all the wrong attention which you definitely didn't want! Now that's the thing you don't want to get into. Here are some brush throws; you can consider it to be a tip or a forewarning! Suit yourself. 1. Facebook - Get Face booked! Sneak into your enemy's profile, how many likes has she/he got. That itch, she has more likes than you? Damn!DP change. Get a professional photographer and get it clicked naturally or hang out with sexy girls who just wear sexy clothes and get a picture clicked in a club or make the background look like the most happening party of the Hollywood/Bollywood industry. Well fo...

A Blue and Grey Monday!

So the alarm goes off at 6:30 am  on Monday morning, I wake up to the morning sun, facing the window, ignore the cloudy days and the daylight saving which takes its time to kick in .I so wish I could just cuddle up under my blanket and shut that window and go back to sleep. But yeah I am getting paid to wake up , get decked up in formals, put up a fake smile and give in an enthusiastic,' I love to be here with you , this day today', kind of a look and visit my manager who is so eager to meet me and inculcate my mind of thoughts towards his inclination towards work, tools and reports. But I rather ,on the contrary decide to stay in bed, call in sick and say I will be working from home, but if  at all anyone feels the need and desperateness towards me and goes kind of 'I can't work without you! I so miss you at work, how the hell am I supposed to get through this without you', you could probably call me at DON-YOU-DARE. Well the awesomeness of working at home, y...
